Just because you want to get fit and live a healthier lifestyle doesn’t mean you have to lose the shirt off your back to do so. Looking for cheap gym equipment is easier today than it was a few years ago. There are many business online and offline that specialize in offering cheap gym equipment for sale to the public. Many of these companies will refurbish or recondition second hand gym equipment to sell back at a fraction of the cost. If you’re new to buying gym equipment, as I was a few years back, there are a few things that you should look at closely before you decide to buy.
Cheap second hand gym equipment can be found in various places online as well as locally. There are a few places where to start searching for cheap home gym equipment.
3 Ways to Find Cheap Gym Equipment
eBay
Browse eBay’s fitness category page to see if you can find a great deal on the type of gym equipment you want. The downside to online auctions when buying gym equipment is that you can’t test it out before you buy, so there’s a slight risk when you buy through a site like Ebay. Make sure you view the seller’s feedback and don’t be afraid to email them questions. If you send them an email with questions regarding the listing and they don’t respond, I suggest you not to place your bid with them. It’s important that the communication is open and available for both parties.
Local Classifieds
You can find local classified sites online to find cheap used gym equipment. This is slightly better than Ebay because you have an option to visit the seller to test out the machine. Ask the seller how old is the machine and why they are selling it. Often times the sellers are selling it because they don’t use it anymore, but sometimes there’s something wrong with it.
Specialty Stores
There are some retail stores, like Play It Again Sports, that specializes in selling back cheap gym equipment that is slightly used from previous owners. Sometimes they’ll even offer additional warranties and replacement plans. The only downside is that you can probably find a better deal finding a private seller.
A good tip when looking for cheap gym equipment is to make sure you plug the machine in to see if it works, if there’s a motorize component to it of course. Also, get the brand and model# of the machine and do a quick Google search. Find out what the machine goes for brand new and how much the seller is asking for it used. If you can get anywhere from 30% or more off retail, then you’ve got a pretty good deal on your cheap gym equipment.
