Different Types of Weight Training Equipment

So many people are afraid of working out with weights because they’re scared they will weigh more, which is partly true. People weigh more when adding resistance training to their workout is because muscle weighs more than fat. Before you confuse yourself about this, let me elaborate on this a little more.

It’s true that no matter how many times you weigh the two, a pound of muscle will always weigh exactly the same as a pound of fat. But let’s say you have a two 12” x 12” x 12” cubes and you fill one up with muscle and the other with fat. The cube of muscle will weigh more than the cube of fat because muscle is much denser than fat. This is where the weight scale can play mind tricks with you and why you really should focus too much on what the scale tells you. The best way to tell if you’ve gotten leaner is to try on that pair of jeans that were a little too snug to wear last month. Trust me, I you would rather weigh 5 pounds heavier due to muscle weight and fit into all your clothes!

Working with weight training equipment has helped me build more muscle, which in turns allows my body to burn more calories. A few years back I wanted to buy weight training equipment for my house but I really didn’t have that much room because I was living in an apartment at the time. But my apartment had a patio in-between my single car garage, which was a perfect location for a mini workout area. So now I was looking for cheap weight training equipment to furnish my new workout room. There are three main types of discount weight training equipment that I was particularly interested in buying:

1. Free Weights
Free weights are non-mechanical weights that solely require your body to lift, push, or pull for resistance. Some example of free weights is dumbbells, kettle bells, weight plates, etc.

2. Weight Machines
Weight machines are machines that allow you to position yourself or let you use free weights to work out your body without the use of cables or pulley system. Some examples of weight machines are abs & waist machines, preacher curl weight bench, etc.

3. Home Gyms
Home gyms are usually a cable/pulley system that has different work out sets for each body part. These home gyms will take up a lot of your room so it’s best to already have a dedicated workout room inside your house.

For those looking for used weight training equipment, there are some companies that sell second hand gym equipment to the public. Do a quick search online and you’ll find a business near you that can help.
